Serra do Caraça is formed by seven main peaks that both captivate and challenge visitors: Pico do Sol, Pico do Inficionado, Pico da Carapuça, Pico da Canjerana, Pico da Conceição, Three Brothers Peak, and Pico da Verruguinha. Each one holds its own distinctive beauty and offers unique experiences for those who venture into the mountains of the region.
Among them, Three Brothers Peak stands out for the harmony of its shapes and the privileged views it offers from its 1,675 meters (5,495 feet) above sea level. Although it is not the highest, it is one of the most symbolic and contemplative peaks in Serra do Caraça, providing an experience marked by silence, isolation, and awe in the face of vast natural landscapes.
It is important to note that all trails within the reserve require the mandatory accompaniment of a certified guide registered with the Caraça Sanctuary. This ensures visitor safety, proper orientation, and compliance with the preservation rules of the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN).
Trail and access to Three Brothers Peak
The trail to Three Brothers Peak is approximately 8 kilometers long (round trip) and initially follows the same route leading to Conceição Peak, up to near the end of the valley. From that point on, the path turns left and begins the ascent toward the summit.
Much of the route lacks well-defined trails, making navigation more difficult and increasing the psychological demands on hikers. The presence of an experienced guide is essential to maintain proper orientation and avoid dangerous detours. In addition, the hike requires good physical conditioning and emotional resilience, as the isolated environment and prolonged effort can be challenging even for seasoned adventurers.
Despite these difficulties, every step reveals new landscapes and perspectives of the Serra do Caraça surroundings. Native vegetation and striking rock formations accompany visitors throughout the journey, creating a setting of rare beauty and tranquility.
Summit views and a unique experience
Upon reaching the top of Three Brothers Peak, visitors are rewarded with one of the broadest and most moving views in the Caraça mountain complex. From the summit, it is possible to see all the other peaks of Serra do Caraça, parts of Campo de Fora, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady, Mother of Humankind, located at the heart of the valley.
The silence of the high elevations and the sense of isolation make this an ideal place for contemplation and reflection. Visitors often describe their time at the summit as an experience of peace and deep connection with nature—an intimate encounter with the grandeur of the mountains and the harmony they inspire.
Preservation and access limitations
Three Brothers Peak is located within the Protected Zone of the RPPN Caraça Sanctuary, officially recognized by ICMBio under Ordinance No. 189/2013. Daily access is limited to 11 people, including the registered guide, to ensure environmental conservation and minimize human impact on the area.
During the rainy season, access to the trail is suspended for safety reasons. Rising stream levels, the reemergence of springs, slippery terrain, and frequent lightning make the route hazardous. For this reason, advance scheduling is essential, and all guidelines provided by those responsible for visitation must be strictly followed.
Three Brothers Peak is one of the true gems of Serra do Caraça, ideal for those seeking a challenging, contemplative experience and a profound connection with the natural landscapes of Minas Gerais.
